Bird Watching 101

Local Patch Birdwatching can be greatly influential in providing ornithological data upon which population and distributional patterns can be assessed.

Most birdwatchers enjoy travelling to nature reserves and national parks to see birds, and information on these is usually easily found. However, there are millions of locations around the United Kingdom that are used as local birdwatching patches, for which there is little or no information. Here, I encourage birdwatchers to contribute information on their local birdwatching patches. I have begun by documenting some of my favourite sites, both past and present.

Please contact me if you would like to contribute information on your own local patches to be included on these pages. All contributions are welcome: nickupton@birdnerd.co.uk

Bird Fact

The song flight of the Tree Pipit is unmistakable as it rises a short distance up from a tree, and then parachutes down on stiff wings, with the song tailing off towards the end.
