Great Spotted Woodpecker
by Peter Ericsson

Birdnerd.co.uk attempts to create a directory of local birdwatching patches for the use of ornithologists in the United Kindgom. Although travelling to nature reserves and national parks in search of species is exciting, local patches are where most birdwatchers make the majority of their observations. Hopefully this website can reflect the importance of local patch birdwatching by encouraging other birdwatchers to write about their own local birdwatching patches. Also featured are comments on favourite bird species and information on a variety of wildlife books.

Contributions of local patches are most welcome: nickupton@birdnerd.co.uk

Local Birdwatching Patches

One thing that almost all birdwatchers have in common is that they have a local birdwatching patch - somewhere they go to watch birds on a weekly and often daily basis. Local patch birdwatching can contribute valuable information towards ornithological study. In this section I have begun a directory of local patches in UK, and welcome information on other birdwatchers' local patches for inclusion.

Wildlife Books

A large collection of books on birds and other wildlife is a feature of many birdwatchers' bookshelves. With so many excellent books for sale it is difficult to know which to buy; here is a collection of reviews and synopses of some of the wildlife books available.
